A “Furisode” Con Man in Japan
After the “Adult Ceremony” on Jan.8, “Harenohi” Co., Ltd. is bashed from all over the country. The company closed and the president Yoichiro Shinozaki disappeared. I think it seems to be a planned bankruptcy.
“Harenohi”Co. (Headquarters, Naka-ku, Yokohama City) handling sales and rental of kimono suddenly closed on Jan 8, exact ceremonial day.
So new adult customers who made reservations to wear kimono as ceremonial costume are very upset. It is said that more than 300 claims have already been given to the Metropolitan Police Department, Kanagawa Prefectural Police and Ibaraki Prefectural Police.
Even if they call the company’s headquarters, the automated voice only says “Today’s business has closed”.
Let me give a slight explanation to foreigners. In Japan, the second Monday of January is a ceremonial holiday called “Adult Day”. And it is very common to wear gorgeous “kimono” as ceremonial costume which we usually do not wear. And young woman wears “furisode” which is kimono with very long sleeves. Furisode is main costume for woman in this ceremony.
There are many rental businesses on this ceremony but I never heard such trouble before.
A famous Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai wrote a story in his English composition class at the Hirosaki High School. The story explains why young Japanese women want to wear “furisode”.
In the past, no woman wore furisode, but when a woman wore it and walked around the town, and finally she got a lot of love letters accumulated in her furisode. Since then, every woman has rushed to wear furisode.

So furisode is a symbol of girls’ heart in Japan.
And the “furisode con man” trampled girls’ heart.
Mr. Yoichiro Shinozaki said that he fled to Shanghai in his own facebook (now closed) but it seems to be a fake. In the first place, it is a strange story that man who is bashed from all over the country reveals his residence.
Well, it may be a matter of time that the he will be arrested but it seems that the young women will be overwhelmed because the company is expected to go bankrupt at some 600 million yen.
