On Dec.26,the Chairman and the President Masayoshi Son of Softbank Group, one of the big 3 cellular phone carriers in Japan, welcomed Rakuten , a IT commerce giant, entry into the cellular phone business with its own communication network. He said “It is important to keep on trying new challenges”.
First, I will give some information to foreigners. Now the Japanese mobile phone industry is effectively occupied by three major companies , NTT DOCOMO, KDDI (au), and Softbank.
I myself currently use SoftBank, but I used two other companies in the past. I think that there are quite a lot of Japanese like me.
The number of mobile phone subscribers in Japan is about 160 million, more than the population.
Rakuten, the biggest IT commerce in Japan, will apply for newly allocated frequencies for mobile phones of the “4G” type by the Ministry of Internal Affairs by March 2018. If it gets approved, it seems that business will start in 2019, the year before the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Well, as a user, I would like to expect that competition between “big 4” will make price lower and services improved. I’m not quite satisfied with Softbank today.
Could you go to the article of “Gita” of the Softbank hawks?
